“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
— Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

About the Book

When Randy heard the words “you have leukemia” — stage 4 — back in 2006, neither of us knew the road would stretch nearly twenty years.

Chemotherapy. Remissions that came and went. CAR-T therapy. A bone marrow transplant from his own youngest daughter. And complications that nearly took his life several times — graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), sepsis, a brain bleed, a diabetic coma and a medically induced coma, kidney failure, two Code Blues, and three long ICU stays on a ventilator.

Through it all, I stayed. I sorted the pills, sat up through the nights, and drove the backstreets to the hospital to be by his bedside — missing only a few visits across two decades.

Faith Through the Fire is my honest, hope-filled account of life as a caregiver: the fear, the exhaustion, the small mercies, and the God who never left the room. This book is for every caregiver who has ever felt alone in the waiting — and for anyone who needs to know that grace can hold, even in the fire.

About the Author

Dr. Elzora Robinson, DBA, is a first-time author. In Faith Through the Fire, she shares her twenty-year journey as a caregiver to her husband, Randy, through his battle with leukemia — a story of unshakable faith and grace. She lives in Minnesota with her family.

Speaking

Dr. Robinson shares her story with churches and caregiver groups — a 10 to 15 minute encouragement for the caregivers among us, with a book table afterward. November is National Family Caregivers Month, and this year’s theme is “Care Connects Us.”

The Invisible Caregivers

She also leads The Invisible Caregivers, a community for the caregivers nobody sees — faith, grace, and real support for those carrying the load in silence.
